It is an honor to pay tribute to Marcial Obregon.
At the age of eight, Benton Obregon competed in his first USASA regional events with the Midwest Alt Series in Minneapolis, now the Upper Midwest Snow Series. That year, the family also attended their first USASA National Championships. Carla recalls arriving late at night without a lot of ability to see the mountain. In the morning, Marcial opened the living room curtains to find the glistening snow-covered mountain before him. Carla told Marcial, “My baby isn’t going to ride on THAT!” Marcial replied with a huge smile on his face, “Relax, it’s going to be awesome.” From that day forward, their family was hooked.
Through the years, Marcial learned how to snowboard to keep up with his kids, Benton and Taylor, and became regular volunteer for the USASA. He attended every annual board meeting at the National Championships, always with a smile and notebook of great ideas to help make the USASA better.
Marcial was not only dedicated to the sport his children love. He was a supportive husband, and his kids' biggest cheerleader.
USASA family forever.
